Introduction
The Appeal is John Grisham’s 20th novel. After the jury awards a large settlement against a company accused of dumping toxic waste, the company appeals to the Mississippi Supreme Court. The owner of the company decides in order to win an appeal; he must have someone on the inside. So he and his political friends choose a young man whom they can manipulate to do their bidding. Will their devious plan work or will the court do the right thing and let the original verdict stand?
